Dear Internet,
We are, indeed, infected with COVID. We took the test last Sunday and got the news on Tuesday morning.
I worked ½ days this past week because I was exhausted by about 1PM. I sleep a lot, drink far too much orange juice and ginger ale, and carry a spit cup with me for all of my hacking and wheezing snot. My fever broke in the first week. I get exhausted easily and can sleep forever. I’m now 100% pro Shipt and Grubhub and along with Chewy and Amazon, there is no need to leave the house. TEH says he’s going bonkers being cooped up but honestly, I’m fine with the whole moving from one part of the condo to the other and not leaving. I have my iPad for entertainment, Animal Crossing, my laptop, and zillions of books. I would kill for a bathtub and a back yard for the dog to do her business in but so far, we are surviving.
I’m so damn angry that we got COVID because we were doing everything right: we’re jabbed and boosted, wore masks everywhere, obsessive about hand cleansing and sanitizing. We rarely went out and when we did, only to places that we trust. I can hear the anti-vaxxers screaming in my head that look! None of it matters so why continue on with the jabbing and the sanitizing when it’s just a “bad cold.” It’s just a “bad cold” if you’re boosted and jabbed. I am grateful we did such things because it could be so much worse. A lot worse. Nearly 900K people have died of COVID in the US and nearly six million worldwide. In the 2018-19 flu season, 34K people died.
COVID is nothing like the flu. And who knows what effects we may have form long COVID.
People have been kind and wanting to do things for us, but really, we’re fine. I can get everything online or at least delivered. We should be past the period of giving it to other people. I really fucking hope. We’ll find out this week.
This is going to be a short week as I’m not up to writing much considering I’ve got the plague.
Things I Recently Wrote
Wonderful Thing
eBooks.
I have three library cards. Thanks to the large selection of eBooks available across all three library systems and the Kindle app on my iPad, I can read just about whatever I want whenever I want. Coupled with my own print collection of books and Netgalley, there is almost nothing I cannot read at the moment I want to read it. Right now, I’m juggling four books on my Kindle, swapping out when I’m in the mood for whatever strikes my fancy. And if the ARCs or the books I’ve checked out aren’t enough, I dig into my print piles to find something.
Interesting Things (or things to buy)
Currently I’m obsessing over the Discovery of Witches world, both print and telly. S3 of the show, picking up on book 3 of the series, started on AMC+/SundanceNOW a few weeks back. I read book one, listened to book 2, and have watched the first two seasons. I’ve got book three on hold at the library and I’m reading book four, Time’s Convert, which is a prequel/sequel esque to the series. I don’t know if Deborah Harkness plans on more books for the world but I hope she does.
With that being said, I’m looking for other books like Discovery of Witches or Outlander. I’ve got A Witch in Time and Delia’s Shadow as recommendations.
