Dear Internet,
I have a post scheduled for today that I’m almost done writing, but I’m having a hard time finishing. As many of you know, the second love of my life, Brendan, took his own life a few weeks ago. I had a plane ticket to see him in March. I am writing about his death and what he meant to me. This is one of the hardest things I’ve written. Tbh, not sure if I’ll actually publish it.
So, I’ll write about telling Nazis to fuck off.
As many of you also know, the world is indescribable. I’ve been paying attention to how to resist which means changing how I live online and off.
Getting off of Meta is difficult for a large number of reasons (plus, you can find me more so over at Bluesky these days) and other companies that are complicit to 47 (fucking Target, but to be fair, I haven’t shopped there in months). I am also slowly cutting my ties to other things, but it’s a process. It’s always a damned process.
WITH ALL THAT BEING SAID, I’m moving my newsletters over to Buttondown. It’s this week’s project, which I hope to complete in a few days. Docs show the process is pretty seamless, so I’m not worried. All the archives should be OK.
Do you need to do anything? Other than updating your filters? Nope!
The only hiccup is that I’ve been on Substack since 2014 (!) and have regularly posted since 2016. It’s a mystery where I’ve posted the URL to direct readers to my newsletter but I’ll live.
The publishing cadence remains the same. This Thursday should see the next issue of the Dispatch Blotter. And so forth and so on.
A few other bits:
I’m presenting on Thursday, January 30th, at Nerd Nite here in town. My topic? Not Your Mother’s Librarian. NNs are at bars and pubs, so all should have a good time.
I presented Social Media for Authors: The Budget Edition this past Saturday at the Romance Writers of America Indie Author Weekend virtual conference. There was a really good turnout, and even better, I got paid for it and free entrance to the conference.
So far this season, we’ve had over 81” of snow. Yes, I’m still happy being in northern Michigan.
Finally, I’m giving an author reading on February 12!
Take care of yourselves, please.

Lisa! You have been in my thoughts even more than usual and I am sending hugs from down here. These times are hard and I'm grateful for you, my friend!
