Weekly Dispatch Blotter Highlights: Issue #14 Possible underaged “party at the port”
Every week, Leelanau county's (where our cabin is located) weekly newspaper, Leelanau Enterprise, publishes the dispatch calls to 911. These are the highlights.
These are all real calls.
Friday, Oct. 30
12:57 p.m. — Suttons Bay Township — Hanging basket and shepherds hook were taken from cemetery. Caller just wants it documented.
1:17 p.m. — Cleveland Township — Possible underaged “party at the port”, Port Oneida.
4:29 p.m. — Leelanau Township — Subject cutting stump. Chainsaw jumped and subject was cut above the knee.
Saturday, Oct. 31
5:20 p.m. — People are placing large amounts of leaves on both sides of the road at Seventh Street and North Shore. Caller considers it a road hazard. Would like law enforcement to investigate. Per officer, the situation described does not constitute a crime or law enforcement matter.
6:57 p.m. — Suttons Bay Township — Caller is looking for a 5-year-old male wearing a red “Iron Man” costume. Requests assistance from other units. Boy was located safe and reunited with his parents.
7:05 p.m. — Glen Arbor Township — Male almost struck caller while backing up and caller honked at him. He then blocked the caller and yelled at them. Suspect parked vehicle and walked into a building.
7:08 p.m. — Empire Township — Subjects lost on the sand dunes. Made their way to the Cottonwood Trailhead off Stocking Scenic Drive. Caller instructed to stay in a place where they can be seen. Caller called back. Good Samaritan stopped by and is giving them a ride to the Dune Climb.
7:13 p.m. — Cleveland Township — Youths at Sugar Loaf. Law enforcement advised them that they are trespassing and should quickly move along. They complied.
Sunday, Nov. 1
2:23 a.m. — Suttons Bay Township — White Dodge Ram drove around a fire truck and through a yard. Then stopped to speak to fire department staff. He was slurring his speech. Seemed confused and possibly smells like he had been drinking.
5:03 a.m. — Leland Township — Caller advises he feels like he’s going crazy. Going to Munson for help and treatment.
9:09 a.m. — Kasson Township — Tree leaning on power lines. They are still intact but the tree is causing extreme stress on the lines. Park Service checked the area. Large birch tree is broken and is leaning over the roadway and over the power lines but is not an immediate hazard. Road Commission notified.
12:59 p.m. —Bingham Township — Tree came down on house. Portion of the tree left standing. Caller did not know who else to call. Landlord on his way back from Grand Rapids.
1:10 p.m. — Empire Township — Tree fell on house. Transformer sparking.
9:01 p.m. — Bingham Township — Caller is concerned about elderly parents that are without power. She lives four hours away and is unable to get a hold of them. She is concerned since they are not answering their cell phones. Per law enforcement, they are going to call their daughter.
Monday, Nov. 2
6:51 a.m. — Suttons Bay Township — Caller would like someone to check on his mother who didn’t want to go to a hotel when her power went out. Caller said she isn’t answering her cell phone. Last contact was eight hours ago. Law enforcement checked on her. Phone was dead. They will help her charge phone.
9:30 a.m. — Bingham Township — Caller last spoke with parents four days ago. Both have health issues. (Law enforcement spoke with subjects. They are OK.)
9:35 a.m. — Empire Township — Welfare check.
10:04 a.m. — Empire Township — Welfare check.
10:19 a.m. — Empire Township — Welfare check.
10:20 a.m. — Empire Township — Welfare check.
10:34 a.m. — Empire Township — Welfare check.
12:56 p.m. — Bingham Township — Caller was followed by a caucasian male in older silver and green truck. He was upset with caller’s driving.
