Weekly Dispatch Blotter Highlights: Issue #23 German Shepherd with a red collar keeps coming into the store.
Every week, Leelanau county’s (where our cabin is located) weekly newspaper, Leelanau Enterprise, publishes the dispatch calls to 911. These are the highlights.
These are all real calls.

Tuesday, Dec. 29
4:14 p.m. — Bingham Township — Living room chair and refrigerator on the side of the road.
6:01 p.m. — Empire Township — Items on Craig’s List were stolen from caller’s truck.
7:40 p.m. — Leland Township — Friend is unwilling to leave. Have not been drinking. Both parties have a plan for what they are going to do tonight. No longer need law enforcement assistance.
8:17 p.m. — Elmwood Township — Caller was attempting to get her belongs and the male half kicked her vehicle and tried to get into the vehicle with her. She drove away and is not at gas station.
Wednesday, Dec. 30
1:12 a.m. — Elmwood Township — Caller has a dog next door that has been barking for a long time. Caller was worried so she knocked on the door of the residence at 1 a.m. but no one answered. Caller is now worried about dog. (Per law enforcement dog is now in the house. Someone was sleeping in the basement.)
1:22 p.m. — Cleveland Township — Three youths on top of the Sugar Loaf Lodge. Three have been moved along.
1:37 p.m. — Empire Township — Neighbor to the north blows snow in front of caller’s driveway. When the county plows goes by the snow is deposited at the end of his driveway. Ongoing issue.
6:06 p.m. — Glen Arbor Township — Caller and girlfriend got separated at the Dune Climb. He doesn’t know where she is. Caller’s phone was at 2% and then the phone was disconnected. (Caller called back and advised they have been reunited.)
Friday, Jan. 1
2:27 a.m. — Leland Township — Highly intoxicated friend left walking and I-phone is now pinging at the gas station in Lake Leelanau. Caller is concerned because he is wearing a light jacket. He was belligerent and would prefer that he get a hotel if he doesn’t want to return to the house.
8:445 a.m. — Empire Township — Car stopped across the street from caller. Still there. Caller heard gunshot. Believes someone is poaching on Conservancy property.
8:17 p.m. — Leland Township — Gathering at neighbors’ house. Drunk patrons left in a white SUV, made a U-turn in front of caller’s wife and yelled. Vehicle sped off toward Northport. Caller and his wife feel threatened.
11:26 p.m. — Bingham Township — Caller said people were out earlier trespassing (knocking on doors) from a drive near his. Five boys involved. All of them under the age of 16. Per caller, the kids were given a “stern warning” about trespassing.
Saturday, Jan. 2
2:25 p.m. — Leland Township — Caller reports someone still at his residence who was advised to leave. Caller got her a hotel room. Deputy asked if he would be willing to give her 24-hour notice. However, she is not picking up phone to confirm she is gone. Caller wants her trespassed if she is not gone.
3:37 p.m.— Elmwood Township — Caller reports neighbor was shooting (guns). He didn’t think it was very “neighborly.” Caller was advised it was legal for them to be shooting guns on their own property but still wanted to talk with an officer.
Monday, Jan. 4
12:42 p.m. — Leelanau Township — German Shepherd with a red collar keeps coming into the store.
12:55 p.m. — Suttons Bay Township — Angry, hostile message left on voice mail.
Tuesday, Jan. 5
12:17 a.m. — Suttons Bay Township — Caller’s brotherin law was refusing to leave. Nothing physical and subject has not been drinking. Left as soon as 911 was called. Caller no longer wishes to speak to a deputy. Will call back if he returns.
