Weekly Dispatch Blotter Highlights: Issue #3 Caller Said it Sounded Like a Person Screaming
Every week, Leelanau county's (where our cabin is located) weekly newspaper, Leelanau Enterprise, publishes the dispatch calls to 911. These are the highlights.
These are all real calls.
(This weeks articles in the LE were very...frustrating (political wise) so I did not read the blotter until today. Sorry for the tardiness.)
Wednesday, Aug. 12
7:53 a.m. — Leland Township — Red Dodge Journey has been running all night unoccupied. Client dropped off the vehicle for service and forgot to turn the engine off.
9:28 a.m. — Bingham Township — Caller hears a very loud beep sound from somewhere in the house and is distressed.
2:10 p.m. — Kasson Township — Caller’s dad is missing again. Hasn’t heard from him in three days. He’s missed two shifts at work. (Law enforcement spoke with him. He’s trying to sober up.)
3:20 p.m. — Cleveland Township — Law enforcement is out with a subject in vehicle possibly passed out for the past six hours. (Subject is OK. Does not need medical assistance.)
11:48 p.m. — Leelanau Township — Caller thinks someone may have entered her house by mistake. Thinks they hear a vehicle. House butts up to state park land. Drunk people have wandered up to their house on prior occasions. Caller said it sounded like a person screaming. (State Police on the scene.)
Thursday, Aug. 13
8:45 a.m. — Leelanau Township — Caller is concerned because a para-sailer came down really low — but did not land on his property. Doesn’t want people doing that on his land.
4:42 p.m. — Suttons Bay Township — Husband and wife came into store. Husband had mask on. Wife did not. Caller requires masks. Believes he is allowed to refuse service. Employee asked them politely to leave. Lady said she had a medical condition and refused to wear mask. Still asked her to leave due to others in the store. Husband recorded employee. Wants to speak to a deputy to put her mind at ease.
7:47 p.m. — Centerville Township — Caller is the owner of the trailer. Did not have permission to be there so he would like to press charges.
Friday, Aug. 14
12:49 a.m. — Suttons Bay Township — Two males started walking in from the woods. Have flashlights. Caller advised someone had been messing with their camper the last couple weeks.
9:21 a.m. — Kasson Township — Neighbor has 11 cats and the smell is starting to spread over to the caller’s house.
2:52 p.m. — Glen Arbor Township — Eight to 10 kids jumping off the bridge. They are being encouraged to do so by parents.
3:57 p.m. — Empire Township — Ongoing neighbor problems. Multiple strange occurrences believed to be from neighbors.
Saturday, Aug. 15
2:16 a.m. — Bingham Township — People with flashlights walking around the yard. They were at the park next door and down on the beach. Caller would like them kept specifically off her lawn. (Two people on the beach with flashlights. Looking for Petoskey stones, per law enforcement.)
3:44 a.m. — Centerville Township — Caller is a cab driver. He turned around in the driveway and heard a woman screaming for help. He went to the door and knocked but no one came to the door.
Sunday, Aug. 16
7:31 p.m. — Leelanau Township — Caller wanted to report her neighbor confronted the caller’s lawn maintenance person. Neighbor was upset because they were mowing the lawn around 6:30 to 7 a.m. Caller just wanted it as information in case it happens again.
8:39 p.m. — Cleveland Township — 13-year-old out of control. Taking youth to Munson.
Monday, Aug. 17
9:50 a.m. — Leelanau Township — Gray vehicle came to the end of the road. Circled five or six times and sped off (Saturday). Came back 10 minutes ago. Middle-aged male with southern accent. Caller told him this was a private drive and he cold caller he was “admiring the property.”
11:34 a.m. — Suttons Bay Township — Caller’s vehicle got egged last night.
2:49 p.m. — Elmwood Township — Homeless man was vulgar at caller. Caller worried about retaliation after confrontation. Empty lot next to the oil change place. Many people hanging out there that shouldn’t be there.
7:11 p.m. — Kasson Township — Caller advised his brother-in-laws neighbor came over to their property lines and started harassing them. (Verbal disagreement only. Both parties stayed on their property.)
As always, don't be an ass. Wear a damned mask.
