Weekly Dispatch Blotter Highlights: Issue #54 Husband, wife and children laying in the grass watching the meteor shower
Throbbing Cabin is in Leelanau County whose local weekly newspaper, the Leelanau Enterprise, publishes the dispatch calls to 911. These are the highlights.
These are all real calls.

So, BUMMER! On the 11th, I got to call 911 because there was a tree down on a wire .I DID NOT MAKE THE BLOTTER! What’s a girl got to do to get on the Blotter!?
Wednesday, Aug. 11
11:24 a.m. — Suttons Bay Township — Miscellaneous juvenile activity.
7:57 p.m. — Leland Township — Someone opened an account in caller’s name. They were advised to file a police report.
Thursday, Aug. 12
2:06 a.m. — Suttons Bay Township — Car parking in the car wash bay. (Per law enforcement subject was just sleeping. Property secure.)
9:28 a.m. — Leland Township — Granddaughter, 14, playing basketball at the park. Black BMW driving fast. Heard someone yell “help.” (Law enforcement unable to located.)
11:09 a.m. — Glen Arbor Township — Guests not leaving property. Not checking out because they don’t want to pay bill because of power outage. (Law enforcement met with the owner. She requested office go talk with the irate customers.)
5:38 p.m. — Suttons Bay Township — Retail fraud.
7:34 p.m. —Centerville Township — Wife has not returned from work. Left at 5:30 p.m. Caller spoke with co-workers who said they left at the same time. Caller drove normal route of travel but did not see her vehicle. (Wife had stopped to visit a friend and forgot to let the caller know.)
9:36 p.m. — Elmwood Township — Caller hasn’t heard from her mother since yesterday morning and has not been able to reach her since. Made contact with neighbor who said that there was a vehicle that was in the front that is not there now.
10:47 p.m. — Suttons Bay Township — Subject trying to jump mom. Has been drinking. (Caller states she has full custody of daughter but let the father have a visit. Found out they were drinking. Went to go get her and that’s when the altercation occurred.)
11:54 p.m. — Elmwood Township — Checking on a business that has light moving inside. (Law enforcement made contact with subject. It is a cleaning company that is there for the first time. Does not know how to operate the lights.
Friday, Aug. 13
3:47 a.m. — Elmwood Township — Female wandering around the end of the road and is sitting down near a light pole.
2:24 p.m. — Cleveland Township — Caller reports someone smashed a beer can on her daughter’s vehicle. Caller is concerned about repeated vandalism when she leaves town. No witnesses. Does not have suspects.
7:54 p.m. — Leelanau Township — Approximately five motorized scooters and/or one-wheel electric devices, driven by 20-something males/ Tearing up trail. Caller wants to speak with a deputy. (Deputy, along with park ranger made contact with the caller. The ranger will be heading to the airport to attempt contact with the individuals.
8:06 p.m. — Leelanau Township — Samsonite bag on the side of the road. Fell off someone’s car. Attempted contact with the owner of the bag at the house and via phone. Family members state they have been getting concerning statement and phone pinged to church off Kolarik Road.
8:58 p.m. — Leelanau Township — Abandoned caller from landline at the airport. Caller went by 10 minutes ago and there were lots of people camping around the airport area. There were about 10 kids or so running around the building area.
9:09 p.m. — Leland Township — 50 cars parked on M-22 along the road. The “whole lake” can hear music. Would like them to quiet down. Law enforcement spoke to homeowner. Said they’d shut it down at 10 p.m. Another call received about loud party at the north end of north Lake Leelanau. (Deputy found no noise. Just people cleaning up.)
Saturday, Aug. 14
4:56 p.m. — Leland Township — Tall, thin man with Mohawk, legs scrapped up. Staggering. Possibly drunk.
5:25 p.m. — Suttons Bay Township — Golf carts tearing around.
9:38 p.m. — Leelanau Township — People will not leave business. Male and female fighting in the street.
10:07 p.m. — Suttons Bay Township — Loud party going on two houses north of caller. (Contact made with Air B&B. They will turn music down.)
10:29 p.m. — Elmwood Township — Vehicle pulled over to the side of the road. Grown man with kids. (Vehicle off the roadway. Husband, wife and children laying in the grass watching the meteor shower.)
11:29 p.m. — Elmwood Township — Caller reports her grandson is physically fighting her granddaughter in the roadway. (Juvenile male taken into custody.)
Sunday, Aug. 15
3:10 p.m. — Suttons Bay Township — Elderly man has made threats. Trespassed. (Deputy took man to Northport.)
5:18 p.m. — Empire Township — Female sitting at trailhead wearing T-shirt only. Red hair, 30s. Slender. Said people are chasing her. Government is after her. Kids were taken away. Locked outside her car. Shock waves going through her body. Caller thinks she is having a mental episode. Subject said she thinks everyone is trying to get her and to not call the police. Park Service spoke to the subject in the bushes. Everything calm. (Made contact with family. Two people will come up to drive her home and get her car home. Meanwhile, she will be brought to the Platte River Ranger Station.)
6:03 p.m. — Leland Township — Several boats gathered at the sand bar and have been playing beer pong with loud music all afternoon. (Checked by deputy. Unable to locate loud music or boats with beer drinkers.)
7:19 p.m. — Suttons Bay Township — Older male has been drinking. Getting into a silver Audi with female passenger. Caller’s son is trying to talk him out of leaving. Caller does not know male or female. But they said they are staying in Leland. Caller will call back if they try to depart. (Car left in Suttons Bay. Subjects got ride to Leland.)
Monday, Aug. 16
10:33 a.m. — Leland Township — Caller sold a boat last week. New owner put the boat in the water and it became swamped at the dock. Now he is blaming the caller for the damage.
5:01 p.m. — Suttons Bay Township — Law enforcement dispatched for a welfare check. Found home occupant deceased. But there is an aggressive dog present and it’s not allowing personnel inside.
Tuesday, Aug. 17
9:01 a.m. — Empire Township — Male harassed caller while hiking on the trails. Subject is bald, wearing sunglasses and a white T-shirt and khaki shorts. Subject was following caller around but is now headed back toward Empire Bluffs.
Get vaccinated and mask up! There is a pandemic going on.
