Weekly Dispatch Blotter Highlights: Issue #8/9 Caller Bit by a Parrot
Every week, Leelanau county's (where our cabin is located) weekly newspaper, Leelanau Enterprise, publishes the dispatch calls to 911. These are the highlights.
These are all real calls.
(Note: Last week I was incredibly hormonal, still going through med changes, and *gestures around* hence this week's double issue.)
Wednesday, Sept. 16
10:29 a.m. — Elmwood Township — Caller says people are driving extremely fast in this area. Says someone just drove past at 100 mph.
2:43 p.m. — Suttons Bay Township — Caller returned home to find his tool shed had been entered.
Thursday, Sept. 17
5:04 p.m. — Northport — Caller bit by a parrot.
Friday, Sept. 18
1:15 a.m. — Bingham Township — Caller got locked out of a family member’s house.
11:43 a.m. — Empire Township — Dog ran down the bluff. Caller is 72 and would like some assistance getting dog back up.
1:37 p.m. — Glen Arbor Township — Caller can see two individuals sitting on his deck, via security cameras. Caller would like them trespassed. (Per law enforcement, no one there now. Checked doors and windows. All secure.)
4:13 p.m. — Glen Arbor Township — Subject ingested lighter fluid.
4:24 p.m. — Kasson Township — Threatening letters.
10:49 p.m. — Leelanau Township — People outside of house with flashlights. (No one around nor any signs of anyone around, per law enforcement.
Saturday, Sept. 19
10:16 a.m.— Bingham Township — Coyote laying down in front yard. Doesn’t look right. Back leg twitchy. (Animal ran away on its own. Letting nature take its course.)
10:48 a.m. — Elmwood Township — Caller struck and killed a red-tail hawk. Trying to report it to the DNR. (Per conservation officer, they are not endangered. Don’t need to report it.)
Sunday, Sept. 20
1:55 p.m. — Suttons Bay Township — People got off the “beer bus” and are in the middle of the street taking pictures. Caller thinks it’s a traffic hazard because they are blocking traffic. Wedding party taking pictures in front of house. Street is still passable. No crime is being committed. Law enforcement will remain on the scene while they complete their photographs.
Monday, Sept. 21
7:36 p.m. — Bingham Township — Drunk female on a moped has fallen over twice and is stumbling in front of his house. He is with her now. Has the key to the moped. Taken into custody.
7:43 p.m. — Leland Township — Camper on the lawn parked on top of the septic tank. It looks like they are trying to camp there for the night. Caller would like them to be moved along.
Wednesday, Sept. 23
9:11 a.m. — Cleveland Township — Something fell out of a tree and struck the top of caller’s truck and left a significant dent. Caller doesn’t have any idea what it was. (Deputy examined and couldn’t see significant damage. Recommended he talk with his auto body specialist and if a police report is required for insurance purposes one will be completed.)
3:30 p.m. — Leland Township — Caller thinks her vehicle has been taken by a friend. Caller confused as to why a stolen vehicle report has not been initiated. (Deputy will go to address and speak with her about the situation.)
Thursday, Sept.24
9:26 a.m. — Leland Township — Homemade sign “register to vote, contact your clerk’s office” taken. Sign was put out yesterday and by this morning it was taken.
1:51 p.m. — Suttons Bay Township — Beavers causing flooding problems. Caller would like a permit to deal with the issue.
2:44 p.m. — Centerville Township — Car was struck by a hawk. Some damage.
8:32 p.m. — Suttons Bay Township — Caller thinks it is suspicious that there are two males and two females at a residence east of him that is usually vacant.
Friday, Sept. 25
6:34 p.m. — Leelanau Township — Miscellaneous juvenile activity.
6:51 p.m. — Suttons Bay Township — 20 cars are parked on lot and lawn.
Saturday, Sept. 26
10:33 p.m. — Suttons Bay Township — Suspicious incident was teenagers making a music video.
Sunday, Sept. 27
12:08 a.m. — Suttons Bay Township — Caller says there is a radio “thumping” and would like it quieted down.
11:54 p.m. — Kasson Township — Man stated he was walking for miles and ask a “smoke or a coke.” Approached caller’s group very quickly. Acted strangely.
Monday, Sept. 28
12:14 p.m. — Suttons Bay Township — Man walking through caller’s yard. Acting strange.
4:24 p.m. — Leland Township — Caller received a call from someone posing as nephew saying he needed help in Florida.
5:40 p.m. — Solon Township — Political sign taken from the end of the road.
7:55 p.m. — Glen Arbor Township — Caller witnessed a young girl, 13 or 14 years old, with an older man in his 70s. Girl was young and they were holding hands. Law enforcement checked with bartender who remembered the couple but didn’t see anything out of the ordinary. Appears to be a father/daughter.
